What is Tracking?

Tracking refers to the process of adjusting the spacing between characters in a block of text uniformly. This means that you're either inserting or removing spaces between all the characters equally to affect overall text density and readability. By increasing tracking, the text becomes more spaced out, which can improve legibility in certain contexts or achieve a specific aesthetic.

When tracking is adjusted, it does not change the font style, align the text, or affect the distance between lines (which is referred to as leading). Instead, it focuses solely on the horizontal spacing between the characters, making it a critical tool for typographic design and layout refinement.
